As a citizen of Evanston, I am appalled that we have a city employee who feels that the concerns of the citizens of Evanston are a joke. Ms. Sundquist was voicing a concern she had about the Machine Shop to Mr. O’Neill that needed to be addressed.

He made it sound like he was concerned for her, and when he thought he had hung up, that would be the end of it. Then he was commended by an unidentified female with, “Good job, Rocco.”

As the Evanston Community Development Director, is it not Mr. O’Neill’s job to hear the concerns of the citizens and seriously take them into consideration to the city council? I don’t know who his last boss was, but pretending you care about someone’s concerns to get them off the phone is not a good idea for anyone. It creates frustration for the person you are putting off, along with trust issues in your character.

As Mr. O’Neill continued his conversation with the unidentified employee, you could tell he was quite proud of himself as he stated, “A f--- up on your part, doesn’t constitute an emergency on mine.”

If this is the quality of leader in our community, I am very disappointed. As a professional, he should act like one. This is not the first time I have heard of Mr. O’Neill ignoring concerns of the citizens of Evanston. Maybe it would be better for him and the people of Evanston if he found a job that didn’t include working with the public.
