Pyatt has always reported with integrity

I have known Kayne Pyatt my whole life and have known her to always be an ethical and caring person.  Evanston City Attorney Mark Harris’ allegations of her not conforming to the ethical principles of the Society of Professional Journalists is ridiculous.

The column she wrote on behalf of the Historic Preservation Committee in Aug. 21 edition of the Herald was in the Viewpoints section of the paper and not a news story. It was an opinion piece that she was asked to write on behalf of the Historic Preservation Committee. It was totally separate from her job and she was not paid to write it. Do we, as citizens, not have the right to speak our opinions? Do we not have the right to try to right the wrongs and help people we see mistreated? To help our fellow citizens?

Kayne has always helped the “underdog” since I can remember, and she sticks up for the rights of those she feels are being abused. The history of Evanston is important to her, as I am sure it is to many who live here.

Kayne performs her job as news journalist in the utmost professional manner. She is very ethical and goes out of her way to confirm information and quotes. She will even send the article to people it is about to get confirmation on the items in the story. To call my mother unethical is the most absolutely ridiculous thing ever and you, Mr. Harris, owe her a public apology!
