Bullying tactics used by city attorney

I go to the majority of city council meetings and work sessions and find the reporting of Kayne Pyatt in the Uinta County Herald to be accurate and balanced. But do not take my word for it; please come the meetings and sessions, and evaluate Pyatt’s reporting of them firsthand.

I am an unpaid volunteer for the HPC i.e., Big Boy Bash, relocation of water tower, restoration of locomotive 4420, etc. I cannot substantiate any quotes in her piece, but I can confirm the general situation and conditions as she described in her opinion piece entitled “Our town’s history needs to be preserved and respected by city officials,” dated Aug. 21.

The unhinged reaction of Evanston City Attorney Harris was a surprise. The original Harris letter was sent to Pyatt and shared with her publisher. In Harris’ communication, he appears to scold and school Pyatt on reporting without dealing with the content of Pyatt’s allegations. It appeared to be a form of legal bullying in hopes to discredit her by using misdirection tactics.

In my opinion, the goal of his communication appears to threaten and censor the press. The Herald fulfilled Harris’s request to print his letter in its entirety (see Herald date Aug. 28) which suggests the paper’s willingness to publish differing opinions, even if it is a negative critique of them. Our city leaders need to do better and learn to be more open.

Since investigations of unethical/illegal behavior of city officials will be conducted as stated by Harris, why not include the behavior of the city officers toward these volunteers (who are Evanston residents)?
