The Lyman High School girls’ basketball team encountered its first blemish on the season last week against Cody.
But that might not be a bad thing for the Lady Eagles.
“They always say you learn a lot more from losing than winning,” Lyman coach Jason Hanson said earlier this week. “I think the pressure was starting to get to some of the girls, trying to stay perfect. I think it was probably good for them to feel kind of relieved that we don’t have to be perfect every night.”
On last week’s road trip, the Eagles suffered their first loss of the year on Friday when Cody came away with a 49-42 victory. But Lyman rallied the next day to claim a 49-36 win against then-ranked No. 3 Powell.
“You never know how your kids are going to respond,” Hansen said. “It was good to see them come out and play like they should have probably played the night before.”
Hansen hopes Lyman (16-1, 3-0 3A West-South) will continue to respond with three games remaining in the regular season.
“I think it motivates the girls quite a bit,” Hansen said. “We definitely want to prove that we’re one of the better teams in the state. I think we’ll bounce back well from this. We’ll watch some film and see where we came up short and the things we need to work on, so we can get better and we can win in the big games when it matters.”
McKinley Bradshaw scored 38 points and McKailey Bradshaw added 28 points in the two games last week to lead the Lady Eagles, who travel to Star Valley today.
Lyman will then host Pinedale on Saturday, before wrapping up the regular season on the road against Mountain View.
