The Evanston High School boys’ swimming and diving team competed at the 3A South Conference Meet in Lander over the weekend of Feb. 4, placing third as a team, with seven podium finishes in individual events.

Lander won the team title with 386 points, followed by Green River in second with 255 and Evanston in third, with 186. Kemmerer was fourth, with 144 points, while Lyman rounded out the Top 5, with 118 points.

Jaxson Daniels and Hanky Phillips were the highest placers for the Red Devils, finishing fourth in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, respectively. Daniels swam the 50 free in 24.14; he also finished sixth in the 100 butterfly, posting a time of 1:02.21. Phillips swam the 100 back in a time of 1:01.63; he also finished seventh in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:21.50.

Three Red Devils recorded three fifth-place finishes for the meet: Jacob Olson had a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:18.65) and 500 freestyle (5:32.15). Wyatt Sawyer swam to a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle, posting a time of 1:58.08; he also placed seventh in the 100 freestyle (53.96).

Chase Dennis turned in the final podium performance for the Red Devils, placing sixth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:42.55.

In diving, Eric Hughes finished eighth with a score of 321.85.

In the relay events, the 200 medley team of Hanky Phillips, Kyler Hogman, Jaxson Daniels and Jamar McDowell placed second, while the 200 freestyle team of Kyler Hogman, Jaxson Daniels, Braddock Brown and Wyatt Sawyer placed fifth. The 400 freestyle relay team of Wyatt Sawyer, Jamar McDowell, Braddock Brown and Jacob Olson finished sixth.

Red Devils in Gillette Thursday and Friday

The EHS boys’ swimming and diving team are in Gillette Thursday and Friday for the 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Gillette Aquatics Center.

3A swimming and diving prelims were scheduled for Thursday, with at least two Red Devils competing in each individual event, with the exception of diving; Eric Hughes is the lone Evanston representative in that event.

Competing for the Red Devils in the 200 freestyle are Wyatt Sawyer, Eli Wilson, Chase Dennis and Hyrum Bell.

Competing in the 200 individual medley are Jacob Olson, Hanky Phillips and Eldon Hogman.

Competing in the 50 freestyle are Jaxson Daniels, Jamar McDowell, Gavin Branning and Braddock Brown.

Competing in the 100 butterfly are Jaxson Daniels and Forest Hengesteg.

Competing in the 100 freestyle are Jamar McDowell and Braddock Brown.

Competing in the 500 freestyle are Wyatt Sawyer, Jacob Olson, Eli Wilson, Chase Dennis and Tyler O’Driscoll.

Competing in the 100 backstroke are Hanky Phillips, Gavin Branning and Hyrum Bell.

Competing in the 100 breaststroke are Kyler Hogman and Eldon Hogman.

In the relay events, the team of Hanky Phillips, Kyler Hogman, Jaxson Daniels and Jamar McDowell will compete in the 200 medley relay, while the team of Kyler Hogman, Jaxson Daniels, Jacob Olson and Wyatt Sawyer will compete in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Jacob Olson, Wyatt Sawyer, Jamar McDowell and Kyler Hogman will compete in the 400 freestyle relay.
