The outcome for the remainder of regular season for the Evanston High School football team comes down to one game.
If the Red Devils (3-3, 2-2 3A West) get a win today against Worland (2-4, 2-2 3A West) they will earn a spot in the state playoffs. An Evanston loss would place the Red Devils fifth in the conference, ending their postseason hopes.

EVANSTON — The outcome for the remainder of regular season for the Evanston High School football team comes down to one game.
If the Red Devils (3-3, 2-2 3A West) get a win today against Worland (2-4, 2-2 3A West) they will earn a spot in the state playoffs. An Evanston loss would place the Red Devils fifth in the conference, ending their postseason hopes.
“It is a must win,” Evanston coach Pat Fackrell said. “If we win, we play for second and if we lose, we play for fifth. That’s just how tight our conference is.”
Evanston is confident going into today’s 6 p.m. matchup at Worland.
The Red Devils are coming off a 27-24 win against Green River, ranked second in the state at the time on Sept. 29. Evanston had a bye week last week and the Red Devils hope the momentum from the win against the Wolves will carry over against the Warriors.
“We all have to do our part,” said Evanston senior Damian Hawkins, who will be playing in his first full game this season after undergoing an emergency appendectomy during the first week of practice. “We all have a job to do. As long as we do that, we’re going to do just fine.”
Worland is coming off a 14-7 loss to Cody in Week 6. The Warriors have also suffered losses to Buffalo and Green River. They have wins over Powell and Jackson.
Star Valley (6-0, 4-0) leads the 3A West, while Green River (5-1, 3-1), Cody (3-3, 2-2), Evanston (3-3, 2-2), Worland (2-4, 2-3), Powell (1-5, 1-3) and Jackson (0-6, 0-4) round out the rest of the conference.
“It’s no secret. We need to pull off a win to go to the playoffs,” Evanston junior Tyus Cornia said. “We just need to play like we played against Green River and play like we know how to play.”
Worland’s offense is ranked last in Class 3A with 165 yards per game. Evanston is 10th at 241 yards. Defensively, the Warriors are ninth, allowing 291.7 yards per contest. The Red Devils are also 10th in team defense, allowing 329.8 yards per game.
Carsen Lyman leads the running game for Worland with 259 yards on 55 carries with two touchdowns. Quarterback Andrew Edholm is 15 of 36 on the year for 161 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Edholm has also run for 201 yards on 86 carries with four scores.
“As much as it’s a must win, if we go out and perform well, we give ourselves a great chance,” Fackrell said. “If we go out and don’t play well, don’t tackle well and don’t block well, we don’t give ourselves that chance. We’ve got to do all the little things right.”
