Local middle schoolers make a mark in Lander

On Tuesday, May 8, Davis Middle School and Evanston Middle School track athletes finished their season at the Best of the Best Competition in Lander. The Best of the Best requires that athletes have qualifying times to participate in each event.
Many middle schools from around the state were in attendance including Davis, Evanston, Pinedale, Worland, Lander, Dean Morgan, Greybull, Jackson Hole, Mountain View, Dubois, Lovell, Green River, Greybull, Thermopolis, Wind River, Kemmerer, Rawlins, Cody, Ten Sleep, Wyoming Indian, and others.
These athletes represented Evanston well and gave a great showing. Several school records were broken by DMS and EMS students in both relay and individual events.
DMS seventh grade girls Savanna Nowakowski, Brinkley Francom, Aubrey Horrocks and Courtney Sims broke the school record in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4.33.36 and placing 1st in the event. DMS seventh grader Derek Parks beat a school record in the 1,600 with a time of 5.22.46, taking 5th place overall.
EMS eighth grade girls Mia Barker, Stacia Barker, Mackenzie Porter and Abbie Rigby broke the school record in the 4x200 relay with a time of 2.00.78, taking 3rd place overall. DMS eighth grade boys David Perez, Jax Moore, Jesus Quintero and Arnoldo Sanchez broke the school record in the 4x100 relay with a time of 48.81, taking 3rd place. They also broke the record in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1.44.21, taking 1st place.
EMS eighth grade boys Junior Zermeno, Salvador Sanchez, Omar Burgos and Payton Vernon broke the school record in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1.46.45, taking 3rd place overall.
DMS eighth grader Jaxin Moore beat the school record in the triple jump with a jump of 36-09.25.
In addition, there were many local athletes who placed in the top three in their events.
