EVANSTON — Three Lady Red Devils scored in double-digits to lead the team to a 4A Southwest Conference/quadrant win over the Lady Broncs of Jackson on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 26. This win solidified sole possession of second place in the conference standings for Evanston at 2-1, behind 3-0 and fourth-ranked Star Valley. The Lady Red Devils were previously tied with Green River at 1-1, going into the weekend, but a Green River loss to Star Valley, coupled with the Evanston win over Jackson puts the Lady Red Devils all alone in second at the halfway point of the conference race.

Team captain Kori Deru led all scorers with 12 points, including connecting on three treys in the ballgame and scoring seven of her dozen in the fourth quarter. Fellow senior team captain Ajahonna Archuleta added 10 points, as did junior Zocia Nowakowski, who came off the bench to inspire her team in scoring, collecting rebounds, drawing fouls and demonstrating great hustle in the mid to late part of the first quarter, when Evanston began to pull away.

The Lady Broncs scored first and the teams were tied at five apiece early on, but when the first quarter buzzer sounded, Evanston owned an eight-point advantage at 13-5. The Lady Red Devils extended the lead to 15 points at the break, doubling up Jackson in the second quarter, 14-7, to take a 27-12 lead into the halftime locker rooms.

Evanston had also doubled the offensive output overall, with three quarters complete, up 42-21, entering the fourth quarter, when they bested Jackson by bucket. The Lady Red Devils are now 9-6 on the season, while Jackson falls to 2-11 on the year and 0-3 in the 4A Southwest Conference.

The Lady Red Devils placed nine players into the scoring column, with junior Amber Lowe contributing six and senior Natalie Robbins adding four points. Senior Sierra Burleigh chipped in a deuce, as did junior Olivia Martin off the bench. Juniors Taryn Wagstaff and Maggie Moore each added a point.

Jackson was led by seven each from seniors Raegin Ross and Grace Turner, with juniors Bella Gwilliam and Jean Feuz both knocking down four and junior Hailey Hardeman added three points.

Like the Red Devils, Evanston will host 4A Northwest teams to begin the month of February with Casper Kelly Walsh and Rock Springs coming in to Red Devil Gym on Friday, Feb. 1, and Saturday, Feb. 2, respectively. The Lady Trojans are led by juniors Danilynn Schell and Corin Carruth, who average 12.6 and 9.2, respectively, and Carruth also pulls down over six rebounds per game. Kelly Walsh is 9-3 on the season and 3-0 in the 4A Northwest. The Lady Trojans are ranked fifth in the most recent WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media poll and handed the Lady Red Devils a lopsided 44-17 loss back on Dec. 8, in the Bill Strannigan Invite in Casper.

Rock Springs is 1-1 in 4A Northwest Conference play and 8-4 on the season and the Lady Tigers boast the leading scorer in Class 4A in newcomer Brenli Jenkins, who is averaging 21.3 points per game.

Elsewhere the Lyman Lady Eagles have won two non-conference games in a row, over Rich County and Wyoming Indian, to rise to 13-4, and are currently riding a five-game win-streak.
