EVANSTON — The inaugural “Border Wars” volleyball tournament was a rousing success with a lot of surprising subplots which will be detailed in Friday’s Herald.

Wyoming won the event over Utah, collecting more wins in the state versus state matchups.

There was another “Border Wars” tournament staged in the northern part of the state, pitting Wyoming competition against teams from Montana with the Big Sky state teams emerging victorious but Wyoming had the upper hand at Red Devil Gym.

Two courts were simultaneously in use all day Friday and Saturday with action getting underway at 8 a.m. both days and extending into the evening hours. Matchups started as late as 9 p.m. on Friday night.

Evanston fared well picking up five wins to go along with two losses in hosting their first-of-a-kind invitational tournament.

The Lady Eagles of Lyman defeated all comers from Utah, finishing with an unblemished 7-0 record.
