EVANSTON — The Evanston golf team is off to a good start. Both the boys and girls finished in first place in a four-team tournament last week at Purple Sage Golf Course, despite chilly and very windy conditions, coach Jerry Carroll said.
The boys’ team shot 323 to beat Kemmerer, Green River and Rock Springs. Individual scores for the boys were: 77 for medalist Brady Herd, 81 for Braxtin Lind, 82 for Dominic D’Anzi, 83 for Mason Smith, 86 for Mason Ellingford, 98 for Reed Robinson, 99 for Jayden Cornell, 100 for Ty Blair, 103 for Ty Haukaas and 105 for Conner Peterson.
“The girls shot good at 268,” Carroll said.
Rock Springs finished in second, quite a way behind the Lady Devils, at 327, followed by Kemmerer and Green River.
Individual scores for the girls were: 79 for medalist Alexis Cornell, 87 for Kyra Sponenburgh, 92 for Lauren Ellingford, 93 for Hannah Ellingford and 125 for Alexia Juarez.
Carroll said on Monday he’s pleased to have some good weather on the way and he’s looking forward to Friday’s competition, which begins at 10 a.m. at Fossil Island Golf Course in Kemmerer.
“For one, we’re looking for good weather this week to get some more quality practice in,” he said. “And [we’re looking forward to] going to Kemmerer, where we should see five or six teams.”
