Girls lose to Kelly Walsh 4-0, boys end in 1-1 tie

Posted

On Friday, the Lady Red Devils played the number one seed Kelly Walsh. Evanston was ranked number six and still looking for their first conference win.

The game opened with Sarah Lamb from Kelly Walsh scoring quickly on a kick that drove the ball into the net from less than 20 feet out.

The Trojans continued their attack, nearly scoring twice within a few minutes, but both shots missed their target.

Goal keeper Bailey Porter saved a couple of scores with about 23 minutes left in the half but the Trojans were showing why they are the No. 1 seed in the 4A West. Not invincible, they had lost to Laramie the week prior 6-0.

Porter continued to work hard against what proved to be a very patient Kelly Walsh offense.

The half ended with the Trojans leading 1-0. Both teams defenses played well.

With about 35 minutes left in the second half Bailey Neff took advantage of a long drive by Kelly Walsh to head the ball into the net and put the Trojans ahead of the Lady Red Devils 2-0.

Evanston had a chance to score on a penalty kick but the Trojan’s goal keeper could get to the ball quickly and stopped a possible score for the Lady Red Devils.

With less than 15 minutes left in the game, Kelly Walsh scored their third goal when one of the Lady Red Devils fell down and gave the Trojans an opportunity and shot the ball past Porter.

In the closing two minutes of the game the Trojans scored again on a penalty kick over the head of Porter ending the game 4-0 for Kelly Walsh.

The Lady Red Devils would continue to look for their first conference win.

Boys vs Kelly Walsh

The Red Devils won their first game the previous week against Jackson and looked forward to bringing their game back home. The Trojans are known for their defense but the Red Devils have been proving their worth on defense also,  and have not allowed opposing teams many opportunities to score.

With a little more than 22 minutes left in the first half, Evanston missed an opportunity to score on a penalty kick but another penalty happened again. Kevin Najar also slipped on the grass and hurt his ankle. He left the game and worked to keep his ankle loose on the sidelines and returned later in the game.

Jess Richins lined up for a penalty kick and drove the ball into the back corner of the net giving the Red Devils a 1-0 lead.

With more than eight minutes in the half, the Trojans drove the ball down the field and Hayden Crofts intercepted the ball and in an attempt to clear the ball, accidently kicked it into the net, scoring for the Trojans, tying up the game 1-1.

There was no one on the field who felt worse about the incident than Crofts. When he saw what had happened, his hands fell to his side and he briefly hung his head. His teammates quickly ran up to show their support.

That would be the last score of the game. The action was fast on both sides of the field but neither team could take advantage of the other and the game ended in a tie.
