Coach Pat Fackrell and his assistants have been working diligently with Red Devil football players to get ready for the season.
This year the Red Devils will be facing 3A opponents instead of 4A and that brings challenges.
“We don’t know much about the teams in our conference,” said Fackrell in an email. “Right now we are just focusing on our upcoming opponent Riverton. We do know that four of the top five 3A teams come from the west, including two-time state champion, Star Valley.”
A starting lineup has not been fully developed but the coaching staff is working taking hard looks at all their players.
We haven’t tabbed any starters as yet,” Fackrell said, “we have had a some great competition in many of our positions.”
Fackrell said there are several backs that are running the ball well, including senior Hunter Groll, Tyus Cornia and Terry Wheaton.
Two quarterbacks, Jess Richins and Seth Lloyd are both working hard and each provides special talents.
The offensive line has the bar set high.
“Beau Lloyd and Blake Overy are returning starters,” said Fackrell. “They are the ones setting the bar for the offensive line as a unit.”
On defense, returning defensive linemen Brock Rigby, Beau Lloyd and Blake Overy played a lot last year and will be key to the Red Devil defense.
“Our inside linebackers, Riley Griggs, Matt Geary and Pablo Escalante are picking up the defense,” Fackrell said. “They have shown great improvement since day one.”
In the secondary, returning players will be valuable.
Hunter Groll at Free Safety, along with Jess Richins and Brendan Mathson all saw valuable time on the field last year,” said Fackrell, “working with outside linebackers Nick Kunz, Seth Lloyd, Chandler Anderson and Colton Schleichart , who have all been working hard, the Red Devil defense looks good.”
Evanston will face Riverton on Friday in Riverton and then will travel to Rawlins on Sept. 1. The first home game will be Sept. 8 when they will face Cody. On Sept. 15 they face 3A powerhouse Star Valley in Evanston.
