Evanston, Lyman and Mountain View girls remain in the top five in latest rankings

The Evanston High School girls' basketball team moved from No. 4 to No. 5 in Class 4A in the latest coaches and media poll. Lyman remained at No. 2 and Mountain View is still fifth in Class 3A. Rich is still in the hunt with a 9-8 record.

Evanston, Lyman and Mountain View girls remain in the top five in latest rankings

The Evanston High School girls’ basketball team moved from the fourth-ranked team in Class 4A to No. 5 in the latest coaches and media poll, released Thursday.

The Lady Red Devils are 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the 4A West Conference. Evanston most recently suffered a 60-55 loss to Kelly Walsh on Jan. 26. The win against Evanston moved Kelly Walsh (10-4, 3-1 4A West) from No. 5 to No. 3 in the rankings this week.

Campbell County (11-5, 4-0 4A East) replaced Thunder Basin (12-3, 4-0 4A East) as the No. 1 team, while the Lady Bolts moved to No. 2. Cheyenne East (11-5, 2-2 4A East) moved from No. 3 to No. 4.

The Lady Red Devils who have losses against Thunder Basin, Cheyenne East, Lyman and Kelly Walsh, play their final home game at 6 p.m. Friday against Jackson (4-9, 1-3 4A East).

Evanston will close out the season with conference games at Green River (Feb. 9), Rock Springs (Feb. 10), Kelly Walsh (Feb. 16), Natrona (Feb. 17) and Jackson (Feb. 24). Regional play will take place March 1-3 in Jackson, while the state tournament will be held March 8-10 in Casper.

The Lady Red Devils are ranked fifth in Class 4A in scoring (54.1 points per game) and are first in field-goal percentage (42 percent). The Lady Red Devils come in at No. 12 in rebounding (25.1 per game) and they are fifth in team defense, allowing opponents to score an average of 46.5 points per game.

Evanston senior Emmery Wagstaff is the second-leading scorer in Class 4A with 20.3 points per game. Fellow senior Hailey Barker is the Lady Red Devils’ No. 2 scorer with 8.7 points per game and is ranked sixth in Class 4A with 3.3 assists per game.

There were no changes in the girls’ Class 3A rankings. Douglas (13-0, 3-0 3A East-East Quadrant) remained as the top-ranked team, while Lyman (14-0, 3-0 3A East-South Quadrant) is still No 2. Douglas received 16 first-place votes and three second-place votes for a total of 276 points. The Lady Eagles received three first-place votes and 16 second-place votes for 237 points.

Buffalo (14-2, 3-0 3A East-West Quadrant) is ranked third, Powell (10-3, 3-0 3A West-North Quadrant) is fourth and Mountain View (10-4, 1-2 3A West-South Quadrant) is fifth.

Lyman will host Rich at 7 p.m. Saturday, before playing road games at Cody (Feb. 9), Powell (Feb. 10) and Star Valley (Feb. 16). The Lady Eagles host Pinedale on Feb. 17 and close out the regular season on the road on Feb. 22 against Mountain View.

Mountain View will host Big Piney at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, before playing road games at Powell (Feb. 9), Cody (Feb. 10) and Pinedale (Feb. 16). The Lady Buffalos return home on Feb. 17 to host Star Valley, before closing out the regular season at home against Lyman.

Regional play for Mountain View and Lyman begins March 1 in Pinedale.

As of Jan. 28, Lyman was second in Class 3A in team scoring, averaging 53.6 points per game. Douglas is the leader in that category with 64.5 points and Mountain View is third at 52.3. Douglas also leads Class 3A in team shooting (43 percent), team rebounding (36.5) and team defense, allowing opponents to score an average of 34.8 points per game.

Lyman junior McKinley Bradshaw leads Class 3A in scoring with 26.8 points per game. She is also the leader in steals (6.3), second in rebounding (10.2), third in blocked shots (2.0) and fourth in field-goal percentage (56 percent). McKailey Bradshaw, who has only played in seven games due to an injury early in the season, is also a double-digit scorer with 10.7 points per game.

As of Jan. 28, Mountain View was led in scoring by Lyndee Hereford’s 12.5 points per game, while Haily Stephens was just behind with 12.0 points per game.

In Utah, the Rich Lady Rebels are 9-8 overall and 2-1 in Region 22. Kierra Groll leads Rich in scoring with 16.24 points per game.

The Lady Rebels play at Lyman at 7 p.m. Saturday. They play at Manila on Feb. 9 and return home for a game against Tabiona on Feb. 16 and a game Feb. 22 against Intermountain Christian.
