EFD puts out fires during an otherwise safe holiday weekend

Posted

On the afternoon of July 4, the Evanston Fire Department responded to a brush fire near the back half of Purple Sage Golf Course that was caused by an errant firework. Firemen put the fire out promptly and, while there was property damage to a fence, no injuries were reported. Cpt. Tim Overy told the Herald the neighbors tried putting the fire out before calling 911, and that, ultimately, the responsible party was never found.  “We responded to about nine fire-related incidents on the Fourth, and we’re sitting at about 15-16 incidents over the course of the three days — all fairly minor. For this year, that’s probably below normal, given current conditions,” Overy told the Herald.  “We didn’t respond to any fireworks-related injuries.” (HERALD PHOTO/Amanda Manchester)
