EVANSTON — Local woman Bettie Coles will celebrate her 100th birthday next week. Her family has planned an open house luncheon and luau from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Bear Ice Ponds.

Bettie’s journey in Evanston began when she was just 3 years old. A proud graduate of Evanston High’s class of 1942, she went on to earn her teaching certificate from Sam Houston and shaped young minds in Hilliard during the 1943-44 school year. In 1944, she married her sweetheart, Bud Coles, embarking on a lifetime of adventures together.

Their love story blossomed into a beautiful family with four children: Gary, Roger, Sallie, and Mary Ann. For three decades, Bettie and Bud ran their ranch in Almy with dedication and passion, while also managing several successful businesses.

A pillar of the community, Bettie has touched countless lives through her involvement in Eastern Star, her musical talents on the piano and organ for church services and funerals, and her active participation in PEO and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Together with Bud, she explored the world, visiting numerous countries and created unforgettable memories. In recent years, Bettie has found solace and beauty near Meeks Cabin Dam, where she continues to inspire those around her.

Those who can’t attend and would like to send Bettie a Birthday card, that would make her day, too! They can be sent to: Bettie Coles, PO Box 584, Mountain View, WY, 82939.
