EVANSTON — The Uinta County Veterans Board paid a visit to the Evanston National Guard Armory on the morning of Saturday, May 5, to make two separate donations to organizations.
The first donation was of a garrison flag to the Bear River State Park. The flag was folded by Guard members on-site at the armory just prior to the donation.
The second donation was a box full of $10 fuel gift cards to the C Co 1st Battalion 297th infantry regiment of the Wyoming National Guard. Captain Eli Varney said members drive from seven different states, including Arizona, Colorado and South Dakota, for Guard duty weekends, and those travel expenses fall on the individuals themselves. “That speaks to the quality of the unit and the people in it that people want to come here and are willing to make that drive, so the gas cards are really helpful.”
Members of the Veterans Board said money for the donations comes from fundraising efforts like the upcoming Memorial Day BBQ that will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, May 28, at the Beeman-Cashin Building in Evanston. The event is open to the public and will feature burgers, chips, drinks and desserts.
