EVANSTON — Emergency crews were busy Sunday and Monday responding to two separate accidents on Interstate 80 in the Bridger Valley. Uinta County Fire and Ambulance Facebook posts provided details about the incidents.
On the afternoon of Sunday, March 4, a westbound Volkswagen Beetle rear-ended a moving semi-truck near mile marker 38. A substantial portion of the Volkswagen ended up underneath the rear of the truck’s trailer. The post said the driver of the Volkswagen was transported to Evanston Regional Hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the truck was not injured. The Wyoming Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Very early Monday morning, crews responded to another incident — this one at mile marker 32 on I-80. At about 3:30 a.m., a driver lost control of his westbound passenger vehicle on the icy road. According to the Facebook post, his vehicle crossed the median and was hit by a semi heading eastbound.
Despite extensive damage to the passenger vehicle, the driver suffered only minor injuries, which emergency crews attributed to seatbelt use. The male driver refused transport to Evanston Regional Hospital.
The Facebook post said seat belts save lives. “This serves as a great reminder to buckle up each and every time we get into a vehicle.”
The Wyoming Highway Patrol is also investigating the this accident.
