EVANSTON — Parked cars lined the street on the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 13, for Aspen Grove Nursery’s first fall festival. Nursery owner Katie Kishpaugh said they have had a pumpkin patch and straw maze for the last couple of years but wanted to expand and do something a bit different this year.
The straw maze and pumpkin patch were still on site, but this year also included food vendors and displays from local merchants as well as other activities for kids to enjoy. Booths displaying fall items were set up by Home Décor and My Favorite Things, as well as Young Living Essential Oils, Scentsy, and MojiLife, among others.
Kids played in a pumpkin-strewn play area, danced to Halloween-themed music in a decorated dance area, played a giant Connect Four game on the lawn, wound their way through the straw maze and enjoyed apple cider.
Several children and parents loaded up wagons with pumpkins to purchase and take home.
Kishpaugh said she wanted to hold the festival to give people something to do outside now that the weather has turned cooler and people aren’t outdoors as much. She said, “Fall is a great time to be outside.”
