Jean Staniforth

Posted

Jean Staniforth was born in Coalville, Utah, at Dr. French’s home on the creek — during the first day of a 10-day cloudburst — to Emerson C. and Elna Gerrard.

She lived in Echo, Castle Rock and Devils Slide, Utah, before moving to Evanston, where she attended school.

Jean married Joseph D. Staniforth on Sept. 9, 1956. Their children are Christine, Ward (Ellen) and Tracy (Don), living in Evanston.

She was fortunate to work for the Strand Theatre while finishing school and then for AT&T, Mountain Bell, the State of Wyoming, and Evanston School District in telecommunications. Jean enjoyed working and the opportunity to meet people in all walks of life.

Jean enjoyed reading (fact or fiction), traveling with family, attending class reunions, telephone get-togethers and had a fascination with hummingbirds and appreciated people thinking of her when they found hummingbird mementos to share.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors include her three children; her sister Gary L. Sims (Tom); brother, Curtis J. Gerrard (Candyce); nieces Theresa (Sue) and Stacy Sims, Jolyn and Amanda Gerrard; and nephew Steve Sims.

“May you all enjoy your life’s journey as much as I have enjoyed mine.”
