EVANSTON — A Bridger Valley man facing charges related to the May 1 death of a 2-year-old child has waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Circuit Court. The hearing was originally scheduled to take place on May 16.
Jesse Hartley, 18, of Mountain View, was initially in court on May 7 on charges of murder in the first degree, aggravated child abuse and first-degree sexual abuse of a minor. At that time, Hartley requested his bail be reduced from the previously-set $100,000, which was denied by Judge Michael Greer.
Hartley said he would request a public defender.
If convicted, Hartley faces maximum penalties of 25 years in prison for the child abuse charge, 50 years in prison for the first-degree sexual abuse of a minor charge and life in prison without parole or the death penalty for the first-degree murder charge.
Hartley will next face arraignment in Third District Court with Judge Joseph Bluemel.
