First baby of the new year announced

EVANSTON — The first baby of the new year born at Evanston Regional Hospital is the son of Whitney Ovard and her partner, Patrick Cobb. Born on Jan. 5, Beckham Elliot Cobb weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20.5 inches long at birth.

The designation of Baby New Year brings with it several gifts and prizes.

“I was surprised when the hospital told me I had the first baby of the new year and would be receiving prizes,” Ovard said. “I had planned to have the baby in Ogden but I have fast deliveries and when I went into labor and progressed rapidly, I knew we wouldn’t make it to Utah in time so we went to ERH.  The hospital staff and Dr. (Eric) Hansen were awesome and the hospital was the best.”

Ovard works in the meat department at Smith’s Food and Drug in Evanston. She said she’s been given six weeks of paid maternity leave. Cobb works in the oilfield. Beckham was also welcomed home by his brothers, Jayden, 12;  Kobe, 10; and 6-year-old Axel.

Prizes for the New Year’s baby came from Carver Family Health, a $50.00 gift card; Uinta Medical Group Pediatrics, a gift of baby clothes, children’s books and baby toys; from Evanston Child Development Center, $500 toward childcare; and from the Uinta County Herald, which gifted a one-year subscription.
