Wyoming Highway Patrol received reports of a fatal crash at 5:39 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22, at milepost 33 on Interstate 80, just east of Evanston.
According to Highway Patrol’s Facebook press release, the eastbound driver of a 2007 Volvo Conventional truck overcorrected when his vehicle began to veer off the left side of the road. This caused the vehicle to overturn and go down an embankment. As the vehicle travelled downhill, the cab filled with snow and trapped the driver and passenger. The embankment’s depth and the lack of light together made it difficult to find the vehicle.

The driver, 39-year-old Keith R. Koehler II, of Saint Peter, Missouri, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The passenger, Tyler U. Judd, of Farina, Missouri, was not. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating driver inattention and fatigue as possible contributing factors.
These are the sixth and seventh fatalities on Wyoming roadways this year.
