As we move forward with the favorable ruling from the Supreme Court, I would like to thank those constituents who backed the plaintiffs and supported the importance of the rule of law.

As Americans, we should follow statutes and laws that have been a part of our history for years. We shouldn’t try to usurp what is clearly a part of those laws in the green books or do an “end around” to try to further personal pursuits.

As Americans, we should follow statutes and laws that have been a part of our history for years. We shouldn’t try to usurp what is clearly a part of those laws in the green books or do an “end around” to try to further personal pursuits.

Many of the constituents who reached out early in the process felt the prosecutor from Sublette County had it right when he said that the actions of the previous leadership had likely violated state law. The fact that he chose not to prosecute the defendants didn’t make the clear violation of the statute a moot point.

The fact that those same county leaders chose not to try to settle when given numerous opportunities throughout the process and continued to spend the county GOP funds shows a lack of leadership.

The most important part of the process is that your vote counts! Those of you who vote make your voices count at the ballot box when you vote for your precinct committee men and women. And the statute clearly states that you must be elected to a precinct office in order to vote for your county leadership.

It is a shame that this decision had to go all of the way to the Supreme Court, but they got it right. It was clear in the statutes and those statutes always supersede bylaws.

As we move forward, the important thing now is to try to repair the division in the county party. I believe the new leadership is committed to do just that. It is refreshing to talk about what we can do in our county GOP to be a positive part of change instead of trying to create dissonance.

In that vein, the new leadership is planning a Lincoln Day dinner, which will have Sen. Lummis as the featured speaker, on Friday, June 16, at the Roundhouse. There will be a VIP section at 5:30 p.m. for those who want to have a one-on-one with our senator. The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be a fundraiser with auction items and great food available. Tickets may be purchased from any precinct person or any of the leaders of the Uinta County GOP. Please join us!
