Local baby’s death under investigation

EVANSTON — The Evanston Police Department is investigating the death of a local infant. Renezmae Eva Medina, who was celebrated in January as Uinta County’s first baby of 2023, died on Friday, Oct. 20. She was born Jan. 16.

EPD Lt. Ken Pearson said officers responded to a medical call.

“They were doing CPR,” Pearson told the Herald. “Then the baby was deceased, so we opened an investigation.”

Pearson said it’s normal to investigate the death of an infant, even if there’s no sign of foul play because “9-month-olds don’t just up and die.”

He said the autopsy is being done in Riverton and EPD hasn’t received the results yet. “At this point, it’s all speculative,” he said.

No arrests have been made and there are no suspects in the death, Pearson said.

The infant was the daughter of Bailey Bettinson and Tevin Medina of Evanston.
