Coach of the Year: Sean Christensen

The Evanston Youth Athletics Board is proud to announce that Sean Christensen has been named coach of the year. Sean has been coaching youth sports for two years and has coached baseball, T-ball and tackle football.

Sean started coaching after his son asked him to coach his team and has since coached two out of his three kids in sports. He enjoys seeing the growth the kids make as the season progresses.  Sean says, “my greatest accomplishment is when the kids ask if I’ll be coaching the following season in the hopes that I’ll be their coach again.”  He has completed the Nays coaching certifications and is willing to learn from other coaches who have more experience than him.

Sean says that he doesn’t find it hard to make time for coaching kids.  “Spending time with the youth to help them learn and grow is one of the best things we can do with our time. Once we learn that, making time comes easily.”  He feels like sports are important for kids for a number of different reasons. “They can learn responsibility, spend time being active away from electronics, and they have the opportunity to make many new friends as they experience working together and winning and losing together.”

We really appreciate all the hard work that Sean has put in with the kids in our community.  He has always been willing to put in extra time to help out with our programs!

Sponsor of the Year: Home Decor

The Evanston Youth Athletic Board is happy to announce that Home Décor has been named Sponsor of the Year! Home Décor has been sponsoring EPRD youth football for eight years and originally started because employees had grandkids participating in the program.

Stephanie, owner of Home Décor, started sponsoring football because she wanted to support our youth and because it’s a good activity for young people. She said, “We want to give back to the community. After 37 years in business, we appreciate the community’s support. We feel that sponsoring youth athletics is a great way to support the community.”

Stephanie finds that there are many benefits for kids participating in sports programs. These benefits include that they learn sportsmanship, it keeps them busy and it creates friendship.

We really appreciate the support we have received from Home Décor for the kids in our community.
