William C. Oliva

William C. Oliva passed from this life on Tuesday, July 23. He was born on Aug. 6, 1932, in Kemmerer, to Joseph and Francis (Penman) Oliva.

He married Verna Simpson in Green River, on July 2, 1955.

He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Verna; a daughter, Shellie Oliva; a granddaughter and her husband, Jamie and Mat Sherman; three great-granddaughters, Holly, Emma, and Bridget; and several nieces and nephews. 

William was a very proud man, and he loved his family unconditionally. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. In his youth, he loved to ride motorcycles, roller skate, water ski, dance, visit people and gamble.

He went to work on the Union Pacific Railroad at the age of 17. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army at 18 and was shipped over to Korea. He was honorably discharged in April 1955. He then went back to work on the railroad, where he became a section foreman and worked until his retirement.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Francis Oliva; brothers, James, Joseph and Charles; paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents; cousin, Donna Bowen and her husband; father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Faye Slagowski; brother-in-law, Larry Simpson; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Verla Hysell; sister-in-law, Kay Bennett; cousins, nieces and nephews; and a great-grandson, Brandon Green.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Uinta Senior Center, 330 Second Street, in Mountain View.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Uinta Senior Citizens Center in his memory would be very appreciated.
