Uinta County Sexual Assault Family Violence Task Force hosted its annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event at the Evanston Recreation Center on Tuesday, April 17. Representatives of SAFV, local victim advocates and local law enforcement were all on hand to walk a mile on the indoor track and then share lunch and information about sexual assault. SAFV Director Angie Fessler said the event provides an opportunity for people to put themselves in the shoes of survivors of sexual assault, with an ultimate goal of stopping rape, sexual assault and gender violence. She said Wyoming has been proclaimed a “Start by Believing” state by Governor Mead and the Wyoming Legislature dubbed this year the #YearOfTheSurvivor. Said Fessler, “We ask if someone tells you they were raped or sexually assaulted, you start by believing.” (HERALD PHOTO/Sheila McGuire)
