Virginia Gwendolyn Dunning Padigimus

Virginia Gwendolyn Dunning Padigimus, 96, of Evanston, passed away Monday, Jan. 22, at her son Herb’s home in Blackfoot, Idaho, with her family by her side.

She was born April 25, 1921, in Evanston, the daughter of Herbert W. Dunning and Edith Parkinson.

She attended school in Evanston, graduating from Evanston High School in 1940.

On Jan. 11, 1945, she married Stanley Bernard Padigimus in Evanston, and they were later sealed for time and eternity in the Ogden LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on April 25, 2008.

She enjoyed coloring, crocheting, doing word searches, reading, dancing, doing puzzles of any kind, little children and teaching Primary. She was an excellent cook known for her homemade cookies. 

Virginia served as the president for the Ladies VFW.

She is survived by her children, Stanley B. Padigimus of Vernal, Utah, Allen (Chris) Padigimus of Roberts, Idaho, and Herbert C. (Jody) Padigimus of Blackfoot, Idaho; son-in-law, Steve Mellor of Rexburg, Idaho; 23 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Padigimus, Sr.; parents, Herbert Dunning and Edith Parkinson; daughter, Edie Mellor; granddaughter, Melody Mellor; great-grandson, Nathan Padigimus; and siblings, Herbert W., Salina, Josephine, Enoch and Genavive Dunning.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday Jan. 27, at the Riverside LDS Church, 7 N. 700 West, Blackfoot, Idaho. Family will gather for visitation one hour prior to the services at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. 

Interment will be at 1 p.m. in the Evanston City Cemetery, 526 County Rd., Evanston, on Monday, Jan. 29.
