Ulyses Grant “Gene” Hutchings

Ulyses Grant “Gene” Hutchings, passed away Monday, July 4, in Evanston, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Oct. 16, 1927, in Ada, Oklahoma, the sixth of 17 children, to Claude Hutchings and Sarah McFarland. He married Wilma Titmus and with this union they had two children, Kari and Dane. They later divorced.

He then married Karon Horne on Aug. 5, 1966, in Evanston, and with this union they had three children, Saralu, Andrea and Nicky.

Gene was a restaurant business owner and chef. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the outdoors, hunting, horses and golf. He loved a good game of dominos, watching westerns and sports. He especially loved rodeos.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karon; children, Dane (Chris) Hutchings, Saralu (Ron) Skidmore, Andrea (Michael) Turner and Nicky (Wendell) Robinson; brother, Dale Hutchings; sisters, Ginger Ellingford, Wanda Stewart, Johnnie Sue Hutchison, Joan Harrison and Kay Anderson. He will also be missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 10 siblings; grandson, Bryan Rogers; and daughter, Kari Rogers.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, in the Evanston LDS 4th Ward chapel at 201 Sage St. Viewing will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Crandall Funeral Home, and at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Interment will follow in the Evanston Cemetery.
