EVANSTON — Trucking company Ideal Transport now has a new Evanston home. Based in North Carolina, the company has acquired property at 86 Allegiance Circle and will be moving in right away.
Ideal specializes in hauling furniture from North Carolina and Virginia to high-end stores and interior designers in the Intermountain West. Owner and president Terrye Ward said they decided to acquire property in Evanston to provide a break point for their drivers.
“This is where the road closes when the weather is bad,” said Ward, “and we wanted a place for our drivers to go outside of a truck stop.”
In addition, the Evanston location will serve as a warehouse for back-haul cargo; after the furniture loads have been delivered in this area, the drivers return to North Carolina with Idaho potatoes.
Ward said the plan is to do some clean-up and renovation of the Evanston property; however, trailers will begin using the yard on the property immediately. Ward said eventually they will likely be hiring both office support staff and short-haul drivers to go to Idaho and pick up the back-haul potatoes.
Ward said Ideal has been in business for 28 years and prides itself on hand loading and delivering all of the furniture in 7-10 days. “We’re kind of the FedEx of furniture delivery.”
She and her husband purchased the company in 2011, although he passed away just a year later.
Ward said she has fallen in love with the Evanston area. “The people really want the area to flourish,” she said. “I really love the attitude and the way people have embraced their history. Plus, it’s like heaven here with the wildlife.”
Additionally, Ward said Lise Freeman with Uinta Realty has been “phenomenal” to work with and the purchase was handled through Uinta Bank. “We kept it all local to Evanston,” she said. “Hopefully we can bring some money into the local economy.”
