Thelma Louise Newsome Harwood, 76, of Las Vegas, passed away from cancer on Oct. 5, 2009. Thelma was born in Evanston on Nov. 23, 1933.
She graduated from Evanston High School. Thelma married John Wayne Porter on June 8, 1951. In May of 1959, they renewed their vows in Las Vegas on the way to California with their two children. They were married 13 years.
Thelma worked as office manager for a prominent automotive company for many years until her retirement.
In 1974, Thelma met Robert Harwood, who was born Jan. 20, 1931. Robert had been a Marine and worked as a butcher in the restaurant business until he retired. They resided in Thousand Oaks, California, until moving to Las Vegas in 1996.
Robert died May 9, 2017.
Thelma and Robert will be buried at the Evanston City Cemetery with a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Sept. 8.
Thelma is survived by a daughter, Deanne (Jim); a son, Kevin (Pam); two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Robert is survived by a son, Randy (Sandy); three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
