The Arts Concert Series kicks off

Posted

EVANSTON — “How they can make music out of their mouths is actually pretty cool,” marveled one of Evanston’s teenage residents, Kenyen Muir. Most of the enthusiastic crowd at Friday night’s concert with Brigham Young University’s Noteworthy group seemed to agree with the young man.

The all-girl ensemble took the stage at Davis Middle School amid the weekend’s impending mighty storm. Some Uinta County residents from the Bridger Valley were deterred from traveling to the show due to the imminent storm. Despite the snow, more than 340 people were in attendance.

The group kept the crowd clapping with upbeat tunes throughout the performance.

“We want our shows to be ‘feel good’ and we want the audience to not just feel happy and excited but also uplifted through our music,” said the group’s stage manager, Rachel Aedo.

This was the group’s first time performing in Evanston. In the past Arts Inc has hosted Vocal Point “...their counterpoint, the all-male acapella group from BYU,” said Arts., Inc. executive assistant Shasta Wigginton.

Arts, Inc., formerly known as Young Musicians, has been bringing the music and arts to Uinta County with their concert series for years. “More than 10 and less than 20,” laughed executive director Carolee Bowen.

While in town, the group spent time entertaining and teaching at local schools. Noteworthy member Katie Josephson said it was a great experience.

“Everybody here is so kind,” she said. “The red carpet has been rolled out for us and this community has definitely made us feel welcome.”

Regional talent is always a hit with the Evanston audience, Wigginton said.

“BYU groups are awesome because we have a huge following here with the (LDS) church so those concerts are usually pretty well attended,” she said.

The group, who will continue performing throughout the western United States, released a new album in November titled “How Sweet the Sound.”

The concert series’ acapella theme will continue into February with a visit from the University of Wyoming’s 72 all-male member group, The Singing Statesmen. The group will share a slice of cowboy pride with Uinta County on Feb. 9. Tickets can be purchased online at theartsinc.com.
