Terry ‘Jack’ Mathson, 58 years, passed away Tuesday, May 3, at his residence in Evanston following a brave battle with cancer.

Jack was born Jan. 29, 1959, in Evanston, the son of Jack and Joan Mathson. Jack attended Evanston High School, where he excelled in sports, theater and academics. He was student body president, attended Boys State, was captain of both football and basketball teams and was best actor as well as the homecoming king for the class of 1977. 

Jack was a fantastic drummer, playing local venues for over 40 years. After high school, he graduated from Ricks College in Idaho, where he received an associate’s degree and was a starting wide receiver for the football team. At Ricks College, he met Julie Feist and soon got married and had three children.

Jack was loved by everyone he met and will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Erland Mathson; nephew, Ryan Mathson; and his grandparents.

He is survived by two sons, Kyle Mathson of Foresthill, California, and Tyler Mathson of Chico, California; daughter, McKenna Mathson of San Ramon, California; his mother, Joan Mathson of Evanston; two brothers, Danny (Betty) Mathson of Evanston and Dave (Kassahn) Mathson of Buffalo; and two sisters, Lori (David) Cunningham of Rock Springs and Tammy (Darrin Staley) Halliday of Evanston.

A memorial service in Jack’s honor will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston with a gathering of friends starting at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Evanston Cemetery.
