Steve Ellis, 78, died after a short illness on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, with his son, Stephen (Junior) and other family members by his side.
Steve was born on July 10, 1944, to Silas Hales and Gertrude Jollineau Ellis. He attended elementary school in Woodruff, and graduated from South Rich High School, where he excelled in sports.
He worked at the mine before joining the Navy during the Vietnam conflict. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he attended and graduated from Weber State University, majoring in geology.
Following graduation Steve worked for the BLM until the death of his father, when he returned to Woodruff to manage the family ranch.
Throughout his life, Steve loved sports. He played softball, golf, basketball, bowled and through those activities he made lifelong friends.
As his son Stephen (Junior) grew, Steve enjoyed watching him and supporting him in his sports activities, and when Junior became an adult, together they continued to spend time playing softball, golfing and bowling together.
Steve is survived by his son, Stephen; his granddaughters, Aspynn and Emeri; his brother, Mike (Kae), of Woodruff; his nephews and niece; and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Elaine.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering and inurnment will take place at a later time.
