EVANSTON — Evanston High School’s performance of “Hello Dolly” May 3-5 was outstanding. Anya Tuft as Dolly portrayed “a woman who arranges things,” especially marriages, including her own. Tuft gave a masterful performance with a voice that captured and inspired. Dylan Phillips expertly played Horace Vandergelder, who is very easily manipulated and won over by Dolly’s wiles.
The foursome of Cornelius Hackl (David Baxter), Barnaby Tucker (Moises Liberato), Irene Molloy (Kayli Sharp) and Minnie Fay (Cassie VanDreew) added their incredible voices and talent to give the audience a night to remember.
Fifty-five students took part in the fun and adventure of producing “Hello Dolly.” Skillful acrobatics, choreographed dancing in the streets and lively music made for a fun and successful production. The crew and stage manager should also be congratulated. A play is only as good as all those who help behind the scenes to make a smooth running performance.
Directors Heather Blackwell and Erin Russell have much to be proud of and celebrate. The families and community of Evanston can boast about the talent and dedicated commitment of Evanston High School students and teachers.
