The Evanston High School boys’ basketball team remained the No. 4 team in Class 4A in the latest state coaches and media poll, released early Wednesday.
The race was tight between the top-four positions. Sheridan received 201 points and moved from No. 2 to No. 1 this week. Cheyenne East had 141 points and dropped from the top spot to No. 2. Campbell County moved from No. 5 to No. 3 with 138 points and Evanston remained steady at No. 4 with 123 points. Green River received 60 points and moved from No. 3 to No. 5.
Cheyenne Central, Kelly Walsh, Laramie and Rock Springs all received votes, as well.
Since the last poll released Wednesday, Jan. 17, Evanston (10-3, 2-0 4A West) claimed a 57-41 over Green River (11-2, 1-1 4A West) and a 69-54 win against Rock Springs (8-5, 1-1).
Here are Evanston’s losses:
The Red Devils suffered a 62-54 loss to Laramie in the season opener Dec. 7. The Plainsmen were the No. 2-ranked team at the time. Evanston also suffered a 64-56 loss to Ft. Collins (Colorado) Jan. 4 and a 77-69 loss to Cheyenne East (9-5, 1-1 4A West).
The Red Devils claimed a 69-66 win against now top-ranked Sheridan (10-3, 2-0 4A West) on Dec. 8.
All four of Campbell County’s losses have come against team that are out of state. The Camels are 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the East.
Cheyenne East also has four losses from out-of-state teams.
Evanston will host Natrona (2-10, 0-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Kelly Walsh (4-8, 1-0 4A West) 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
