The Evanston High School boys' basketball team is ranked third in Class 4A. Meanwhile, Rich is the top-ranked team in Class 1A in Utah. Mountain View and Lyman are both looking to make a late run.

The Evanston High School boys’ basketball team moved from No. 4 to No. 3 in Class 4A in the latest coaches and media poll, released Wednesday.

The Red Devils are 12-3 overall and 4-0 in the 4A West. Evanston is riding a six-game winning streak since suffering a 77-69 loss to Cheyenne East on Jan. 6. The Red Devils’ other losses came against Ft. Collins (Colorado) on Jan. 4 and to Laramie in the season opener on Dec. 7.

Evanston will host Jackson (4-9, 0-4 4A West) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Red Devils’ final home game of the season.

Sheridan (11-4, 3-1 4A East) remained the top-ranked team in Class 4A, while Cheyenne East (10-6, 2-2 4A East) is still at No. 2. Campbell County (10-5, 3-1 4A East) moved from No. 3 to No. 4 and Cheyenne Central (7-8, 2-2 4A East) replaced Green River (11-3, 1-2 4A West) at No. 5.

Evanston is the only team representing the West in Class 4A and the Red Devils are the only undefeated team in the conference. Rock Springs and Kelly Walsh are both 2-1, Green River and Natrona are both 1-2 and Jackson is 0-4.

Evanston has six regular-season games remaining before regional play begins March 1-3 at Jackson.

After hosting Jackson on Friday, the Red Devils travel to Green River (Feb. 9), Rock Springs (Feb. 10), Kelly Walsh (Feb. 16), Natrona (Feb. 17) and Jackson (Feb. 24).

The Red Devils are ranked fifth in Class 4A in scoring at 61.9 points, but they have the best field-goal percentage at 51 percent. Evanston is ranked last in rebounding and is sixth in team defense, allowing opponents to score an average of 54.5 points per game.

Evanston junior Braxton Hiatt is third in scoring in Class 4A with 20.5 points per game. Senior Chase Critchfield is fifth, averaging 18.3 points per game. Senior Brenden Mathson leads Class 4A with a 70 percent field-goal percentage and is the Red Devils’ third-leading scorer at 13 points per game.

Mountain View (5-7, 2-0 3A West South Quadrant) and Lyman (1-14, 0-3 3A West South Quadrant) did not receive any votes in the latest state rankings.

The Buffalos host Class 2A Kemmerer today and Big Piney on Saturday. They travel to Powell (Feb. 9), Cody (Feb. 10), and Pinedale (Feb. 16) before closing out the regular season at home with Star Valley (Feb. 17) and Lyman (Feb. 22).

The Eagles host Rich Thursday before traveling to Cody (Feb. 9), Powell (Feb. 10) and Star Valley (2-16). Lyman will play its last home game Feb. 17 against Pinedale, before closing out the season Feb. 22 at Mountain View.

Mountain View and Lyman will both compete in regionals Feb. 1-3 at Pinedale.

Mountain View sophomore Braeden Walk is seventh in Class 3A in scoring with 15.7 points per game, while senior Jason Stoddard is seventh in assists (3.0). Stoddard is also second on the team in scoring with 10.1 points per game.

Alex Turner leads Lyman in scoring with eight points per game.

In Utah, Rich is the top-ranked team in Class 1A. The Rebels are 12-4 overall and 5-0 in Region 22.

Nick Jarmon leads Rich in scoring with 13.7 points per game, while Aaron Smith is second with 11.9.

The Rebels have six regular-season games remaining.
