EVANSTON — Hosting the 4A West regional championship meet on Feb. 1-2, proved to be very fruitful for the Red Devil swim team. A number of swimmers who had previously met state-qualifying standards qualified in additional events and/or improved upon their qualifying times, while others, such as sophomores Vince Bloomfield, Connor Fackrell, Ben Cook and Jayden Cornell met or surpassed qualifying times for the first time on the season, at the regional meet.

Team scores for the meet were as follows:

1. Laramie High School                   373

2. Kelly Walsh High School             288

3. Green River High School             277

4. Evanston High School                  149

5. Rock Springs High School            105

6. Natrona County High School          47

The team competed yesterday in Lyman during a “last-chance” event, too late for press time, to hopefully qualify a few more swimmers on the verge of matching qualifying standards for state on Feb. 14-15, in Gillette.

By event, these are the Red Devils who have qualified for state with their qualifying times:

Sophomore Vince Bloomfield — 53.97 seconds

200-yard individual medley

The Red Devils have also qualified for the three relay race events at state.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team is comprised of Bloomfield, Cook, Cornell and Camphouse, and currently holds the ninth-best time going into the state meet with a time of 1:38.75.

The 200-yard medley relay team also holds down the ninth spot entering state with a time of 1:53.44, and features Nicholls, Cook, Bloomfield and freshman Gage Beachler.

Evanston will also compete in the 400-yard freestyle relay with the same foursome from the 200-yard freestyle relay in Bloomfield, Cook, Cornell and Camphouse. The team’s time of 3:44.40 is the tenth-best entering the state meet in Gillette next weekend, Feb. 14-15.
