RIVERTON — The Evanston High School golf team traveled to Riverton for a two-day tournament against 10 teams. The boys finished in fourth place with a total score of 705. Sheridan won the event with a score of 637.
Two Evanston golfers made the top ten of the event. Brady Hurd shot an 83 and then an 81 for a total of 164. Braxton Lind shot 82-86 for a total of 169. Mason Smith had a good tournament shooting a 97 the first day and improving to a 95 the second day for a total of 192. Jayden Cornell shot a 100 and a 136 for a total of 236. Reed Robinson shot a 109 and a 106 for a total of 215 and the Ty Blair shot a 132 and improved on day two to a 109 for a total of 241.
The girls’ team won their event, defeating nine teams. They shot 281 on the first day and then a 288 on day two for a total of 569. Lander was second with a total of 576.
All three Lady Red Devils made the top ten.
Lexi Cornell led the way with a 91 on the first day of the tournament followed by an 88 on the second day for a total of 179, good enough for third place. Kira Sponenburgh was in fifth place after shooting a 93 and a 97 for a total of 190. Allie Hanson shot a 97 and a 103 for a total of 200.
Coach Jerry Carroll is happy with the progress of the team.
There was a mistake in Friday’s edition of the Uinta County Herald, Ty Blair scored a 133, not Kai Haakaas.
