Raymond “Ted” Fackrell

Posted

On Monday, Nov. 2, Raymond “Ted” Fackrell, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away at the age of 78, in Salt Lake City.

Raymond was born on April 15, 1942, in Lyman, to Veda Mae (Durrant) Fackrell and John Wilden Fackrell. On May 16, 1962, he married Beverley Sue Hofeldt in Paris, Idaho. They returned to Lyman to build their home and family. Together they raised two daughters, Tammy and Trudi, and one son, Terry Ted.

Ted, aka “Gramps,” ran John’s Bar in downtown Lyman. He made friends with everyone he met.  He was a generous man who was always there for anyone who needed a hand, a few extra bucks or a good laugh. He loved telling stories about his adventures as a kid. He also loved to share about his time spent in the mountains with friends and searching for gold.

If he had a free weekend, he enjoyed making a quick trip to Mesquite or Wendover to hit a few slot machines. Time spent with family at birthday parties, baseball and football games, plays, barbecues and road trips to the mountains (to grab a shake) were some of his favorite things to do. If he could drive around town, grab a cup of coffee, wave to a few friends and snuggle on the couch with a pup, it made his day complete.

He was so loving to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They loved going to Gramps’ house for a popsicle and a visit. His last few weeks spent in Moab with his daughter were full of sightseeing, family and friend visits, road trips, driving the La Sal Mountain Loop, watching the garden grow (the watermelons were his favorite), weeding the property and moving from his warm chair to his cool chair on the back porch. He lived life to the fullest and was tough to the end. This “thumbs up” and positivity will be a memory we all hold forever!

Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverley; his two children, Trudi and Terry; and his parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Richard) McFadden; his sister, Cindy (Floyd) Roberts; brother, John (Pauline) Fackrell; grandchildren, Justin (April) Walker, Brandon Butters and Jordan (Michael) Meadows; and six great-grandchildren, Torrance, Gavin, Gage, Daxton, Blakeli and Olivia.

A viewing was held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Crandall Funeral Homes in Evanston.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at the Heritage Barn in Lyman. Interment will follow in the Fort Bridger Cemetery. Light refreshments will be served following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude in memory of Ted Fackrell.
