FORT BRIDGER Penny Meeks, 68, of Fort Bridger, Wyo.; passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 2, 2021, at Evanston Regional Hospital.

Penny was born Nancy Penelope Brooks on Aug. 27, 1953, in Loyalton, Calif.; to Delbert and Leila Brooks. Penny spent much of her childhood in California before moving to Farson, Wyo.; with her family at the age of 13. Penny graduated from Farson High School and completed a couple of semesters at a business college before marrying the love of her life, Boyd Lee Meeks. Boyd and Penny were married at the Mountain View LDS church on March 25, 1972. They soon began their family while living in Fort Bridger with their first child, Lucas.

From there, they continued growing their family and had twins, Melaine and Melissa. Soon after, their daughter Laura, came along. There was a move to Rock Springs in 1978, where they continued this trend with another girl, Chrystal. In practice for a second boy, they had their final girl, Charlotte. With the love of babies and raising children, they lovingly welcomed Blaine, their nephew at the age of 18 months. Blaine immediately became a brother to all and is the son they had always wanted to complete their family of seven kids, in seven years.

The family moved back to Fort Bridger in 1986. Penny spent the rest of her life devoted to her children and husband. She was the glue, love and strength that held her large family very close together. Penny taught her children how to work hard, do what needed to be done, and never complain. She taught them compassion, empathy and to love with all their hearts as she did. She always put her family first and enjoyed being with all of them, near and far away.

Penny and Boyd helped all people they came in contact with. They would stop and help stranded motorists, allow people into their home for shelter, food and good company. Penny loved to travel, see new things and go on adventures with her love, Boyd. Over the years, she enjoyed being a softball umpire and participating in the local bowling leagues. She also enjoyed the outdoors hunting and camping with her family. She leaves behind a large family, and close friends who loved her deeply.

Penny and Boyd were sealed together for all eternity in the Star Valley LDS Temple on June 29, 2018.

Penny was preceded in death by her father, Delbert; her mother, Leila; her father-in-law. Jack Meeks; and her younger brother, William Brooks.

She leaves behind the love of her life, Boyd; her children: Luke of Fort Bridger, Melissa (Manuel) Varela of Fort Bridger, Melaine (Brian) Anson of Lyman, Laura (Shawn) Jorgensen of Fort Bridger, Chrystal (Jt) Price of Green River, Blaine (Brenda) Brooks of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; Charlotte (Bill) Black of Mountain View; brother, Gerald (Marlene) Brooks of High Land, Utah; brother, Mike (Karen) Brooks of Mountain View; her mother-in-law, Ester Meeks of Shoshone Idaho; and 29 grandchildren with number 30 on the way, 3 great-grandbabies and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held Sept. 9, at the LDS Church in Mountain View. The viewing will begin at 11 a.m. and services start at 1 p.m. Graveside services and dedication will follow immediately at the Millburn Cemetery.
