Evanston baseball team loses to Cheyenne

The American Legion Evanston Outlaws traveled to Casper to compete at the state championship this week but fell to Cheyenne in their first game.
The Outlaws took the lead in the top of the first inning. Hunter Hicks doubled on a fly ball to right field, then after two outs, Braedon MacDonald walked to first and then Griffen Mitchell singled on a ground ball to third base and Hicks scored, giving the Outlaws a 1-0 lead.
The lead did not last long. In the bottom of the first inning Cheyenne answered with three runs of their own and the outlaws could not recover.
In the top of the second inning, Brandon Wicks doubled on a fly ball to center field allowing Cris Periman to score but Kimball Madsen was out at third base, ending the Outlaws chances to score again.
Cheyenne scored another run in the inning and when the dust cleared Cheyenne was leading 4-2 at the end of the second inning. They added two more runs in the third inning and extended their lead 6-2.
By the bottom of the fourth inning, Cheyenne had gained an almost insurmountable lead by adding four more runs and taking a commanding lead of 10-2. They continued to add to their score, inning after inning and after the fifth inning they held a 14-2 lead.
The Outlaws did score a run in the sixth inning when Griffen Mitchell singled on a fly ball to right field and Seth Lloyd scored but Cheyenne wasn’t finished, they answered with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Hunter Hicks doubled on a fly ball to center field and Mitchell scored the Outlaws last run of the game.
Cheyenne defeated the Evanston Outlaws 16-4.
