MOUNTAIN VIEW — Mountain View High School football coach Brent Walk believes his team is firing on all cylinders.

On Friday, the Buffalos rolled to a 45-0 win against Wheatland in a Class 2A state semifinal game. Now, they will compete for a state championship at noon Friday against Glenrock at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie.

“We think it’s all coming together at one time,” Walk said.

Mountain View (8-2) is seeking its fifth state championship in program history. Walk, who became the head coach in 2012, led the Buffalos to the state title game in 2013 and 2014. Mountain View won it all in 2014.

Before this season started, Walk and his team made it a goal to win another championship in 2017.

“It’s what we’ve been working towards,” Walk said. “First, you dream it. Then, you have to believe it, and then you have to achieve it.”

For most of the season, Glenrock (9-1) has sat at the top of the Class 2A rankings, while Mountain View has come in at No. 2. The Herders, the No. 1 team in the East, claimed a 30-27 win against Big Piney in the state semifinals.

“Glenrock is obviously a great, great football team,” Walk said. “But our kids aren’t satisfied with going to Laramie. Our goal is to bring home that championship.”

In their quarterfinal game against Wheatland, the Buffalos jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter and scored 27 unanswered points in the second quarter to secure the victory.

“You could see it in (the players') eyes: one more,” Walk said. “We’ve got one more. We’re not done.”

It was the second-straight playoff game Mountain View, the No. 1 team in the West, won by a 45-0 margin. The Buffalos defeated Thermopolis 45-0 in the first round of the playoffs.

The Buffalos finished with 512 yards of total offense while recording their sixth shutout this season.

“We’re hoping and we’re thinking that we’re peaking right now,” Walk said.

Sophomore co-quarterback Kimball Madsen was 5 of 11 through the air for 97 yards with two touchdowns. He also ran for 194 yards on 16 carries and had three scores on the ground.

Sophomore running back Briggin Bluemel finished with 158 yards rushing on 19 carries and a touchdown.

Senior Jason Stoddard had three receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 54 yards on five carries.

“What is really cool about this team, and we talk about this all the time, is dedicate yourself to the mighty purpose,” Walk said. “That’s what the guys are doing.”
