Mountain View falls short in consolation semifinal

Posted

CASPER – Mountain View High School volleyball coach Diana Tims knew her team wasn’t ready to have it season come to an end after the Lady Buffalos fell to Douglas on Thursday in the first round of the Class 3A state tournament at the Casper Events Center.

Tims was right. Mountain View showed fight in the later rounds.

The Lady Buffalos cruised through their first-round consolation game on Friday against Star Valley before falling just short to Riverton in a must-win game on Saturday.

“There’s a lot on the line and they didn’t want to go home,” Tims said. “It’s definitely a high-pressure situation and they handled it well.”

Mountain View (No. 4 West) suffered a 25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 25-21 loss to Douglas (No. 1 East) in the opening round on Thursday, putting the Lady Buffalos in a must-win situation.

They didn’t disappoint.

Mountain View bounced back with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-17 win against Star Valley (No. 2 West) on Friday and had one more game to get through to play for some hardware.

“We gave Douglas a great game,” Tims said. “We came back after a loss and did an amazing job. They competed and stayed aggressive the whole game.”

On Saturday, Mountain View faced Riverton for the fifth time this season. The Lady Buffalos beat the Lady Wolverines in the first two meeting, but Riverton has gotten the better of Mountain View in the last three.

The Lady Wolverines earned their way into the third-place game against Lyman after handing the Lady Buffalos a 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 25-19 loss.

“My girls are small, but they’ve competed against the best teams in the state in every situation – at the Rawlins Tournament, at the Casper Tournament,” Tims said. “I’m so proud of them.”

Mountain View will graduate four seniors in Brianna Tims, Karlee Hereford, Baylee Tims and Kindee Carter, but the Lady Buffalos will still return several starters next season.

“I think they’ve had a lot of learning opportunities this year,” Diana Tims said. “They’ve learned a lot, they’ve grown a lot and I think next year will be good for them.”
