The Evanston Red Devils track and field team took second place and one EHS athlete broke a school record over the weekend at the Meet of Hope Invitational in Rock Springs. 

Senior Seth Macdonald took home a pair of first-place wins after a 21-05 showing in the long jump, and a school record 6-09.25 in the high jump.

The Evanston boys finished second overall, the girls finished third and their combined score of 223 earned second place behind Rock Springs at 515.

Junior Bryssa Blevins took 14th place in the 100-meter dash, and freshman Tia Nelson finished in 16th place. In the 200 meter, Kaelyn Hiatt finished seventh and Lexie Demander took 10th place. Evanston girls competing in the 400-meter finals included Reghan Worley, along with Nelson and Demander, taking fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.

Worley took third place in the 800-meter race, and freshman Lilly Williams earned third in the 1600 meters.

Tayler Groll took second in the 100-meter hurdles, and earned first place in the 300 hurdles, followed by Gabby Hall in third and Taryn Holt in fourth. EHS took third in the 4x100-meter relay, second in the 4x400, third in the 4x800 relay and second in the 1600 sprint medley.

Freshmen Michelle Quintero and Priscilla Harmon led EHS in the high jump, finishing in ninth and 10th place, respectively. 

Groll easily won the pole vault, followed by Hiatt at second and EHS freshman Victoria Lange in fourth. Senior Janne Maas had the best long jump for a Lady Devil, earning her 14th place, and sophomore Zocia Nowakowski took eighth in the triple jump.

Quintero took 14th in shot put, followed by junior Marie Davis at 16th. Lexi Hutchinson beat Nowakowski by an inch in discus, earning Hutchinson 17th place and putting her teammate in 18th.

In boys action, sophomore Kerry Wheaton took second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200 meters; senior Brady Wagstaff finished 10th. The Devils did well in the 400-meter dash, with Kody Smith, Gabe Morris and Garrett Berger finishing second, third and fifth, respectively.

Freshmen Robert Gomez and Logan Driver took 10th and 11th place in the 800 meters. Gomez finished 14th in the 1600 meters.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Jamin Barker, Hunter Groll and Cade Francom finished in eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively. Groll took fifth place in the 300-meter hurdles.

Evanston teams took second and third in the 4x100 relay, and the Devils took third in the 4x400. EHS finished in fifth place in the 4x800 relay, and second in the 1600 sprint medley.

Junior Cris Periman took fourth place in the pole vault, and Jamin Barker achieved Evanston’s best mark in the triple jump, earning him 11th place. In shot put, Matthew Geary took third place and Bridger Barker took fifth.

Geary took fourth in discus, followed by senior Damian Hawkins at seventh, sophomore Jacob McMurtrey at ninth and Barker at 10th.

The Red Devils will host the Evanston Invitational, which will be at EHS on Wednesday, April 18. It was originally scheduled for Tuesday.
