LYMAN — Lyman High School wrestling coach Travis Ayres likes the direction his team is heading.
The Eagles claimed a 60-24 win in a dual meet on Tuesday against Kemmerer and had three athletes win individual awards at the Kemmerer Rangers’ Aimone Wrestling Invitational on Saturday.
“I’d say we’re moving in the right direction,” Ayres said on Wednesday. “We had some good matches before the break and now we’re going to be spending a lot of time on technique and conditioning over the break.”
Colton Vangieson (160 pounds), Dryden Menk (220 pounds) and Roy Collins (285 pounds) each won their weight classes in Kemmerer over the weekend.
After beating Kemmerer in a dual on Tuesday, Lyman hopes to continue to make strides.
“We’re pretty happy with the win against Kemmerer and how we wrestled over the weekend in Kemmerer,” Ayres said. “The kids are working hard. I feel like we’re moving in the right direction.”
Lyman will host Duchesne (Utah) on Jan. 3 before competing in Green River on Jan. 5-6.
In the meantime, the Eagles will continue to stay busy during the holiday break.
“We’ll keep them active,” Ayres said. “It’s a good opportunity to work on some different techniques or work on some other stuff in practice that we might not normally have time to do with all the scheduled matches.”
