EVANSTON — The Lyman High School boys’ swimming team isn’t taking it any easier at practice with the conference and state meets approaching.
But the Eagles still continue to drop times.
“Our kids are swimming pretty good,” Lyman coach Loren Huntsman said. “We’re at the point of the season where we still have to practice them through. We’re not resting. Some guys hit their (personal bests Wednesday), so yeah, we’re happy with the day’s meet.
“When they can work hard in practice, and come compete when they’re still tired, that helps us out a lot.”
Lyman claimed an 86-81 win against Rock Springs and an 85-81 win against Evanston in a dual meet on Wednesday at Davis Middle School in Evanston.
The Eagles, who have already qualified seven swimmers for the Class 3A state meet, had three individuals win races and two relay teams that took home the gold on Wednesday.
“I think we did really well (Wednesday),” Lyman senior Cooper Haycock said. “We had a lot of guys cut time and got some new (personal records) for the year. Coach is working us hard and we’re still swimming some good times.”
Carson Walker was first in the 50-yard freestyle, Haycock won the 100-yard butterfly and Hansen Bradshaw was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle.
Lyman’s 200-yard medley relay team of Wynn Officer, Stone Olguin, Walker and Carter Huntsman won the race in 1:54.12.
The Eagles’ 400-yard freestyle relay of Olguin, Haycock, Hanson and Walker also won in 3:34.76
“I think as a team, overall, we did really well. We had lots of (personal records Wednesday),” Olguin said. “We’re feeling pretty good, but still have lots of room to improve.”
Lyman will compete at Pinedale Jan. 26-27, before traveling to Kemmerer for regionals Feb. 2-3. A last-chance meet will be held in Pinedale Feb. 8 and the state meet will take place Feb. 15-16 in Laramie.
The Eagles, who took second at state last season, are confident as the final meet approaches.
“I think we’re going to do really well,” Haycock said. “I think we’re going to have a lot of guys in the top six and placing at state.”
