The Evanston High School boys’ swimming team will compete at the Class 4A state meet in Laramie on Friday and Saturday.

Seniors Caleb Richins and Dylan Phillips will represent the Red Devils in two individual events. Sophomore Colter Camphouse will also compete in two individual races.

Ben Cook (freshman), Jayden Cornell (freshman), Reed Robinson (junior) and Vince Bloomfield (freshman) will compete in various relays for the team.

Phillips, a three-time individual state qualifier, will compete in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, along with two relays.

“I’m just going to try to do my best,” he said. “That’s the whole goal for state.”

Richins, who swam relays last year, qualified individually in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard butterfly. Richins will also compete in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay.

“I’m hoping for a top-12 (finish), especially in the butterfly,” Richins said. I just want to do my best and see where I’m placed around the state.”

Camphouse earned his cut in the 100-yard backstroke later in the season when he dropped five seconds from his previous best time. The sophomore went on to make the state cut in the 200-yard freestyle.

“I’m going to go out and do the best I can and try to make the top 12,” Camphouse said.

Evanston will put an emphasis on finished strong in the relay events, too.

“We’ve talked a lot about the 200-free relay,” Richins said “We want to see if we can move up in the rankings. We’re pretty close to a couple of teams.”

Lyman swimming underway at state

The Lyman High School boys’ swim team competed at the Class 3A state meet on Thursday and Friday in Laramie. Results were not available before press deadline at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The Eagles, who finished second at state last year, have five individuals who qualified in all eight events.
