Local relief group involved in food, blood drives

EVANSTON — The local coronavirus response team met again via phone conference on Wednesday, April 1, to continue coordination of volunteer efforts and to provide an update on current response activities.

Eric Klatt of the Wyoming Red Cross reported he has created a volunteer sign-up sheet with a link on the Red Cross website: http://forms.gle/x5VtheVd5Z4qjwsZ8. The sign-up sheet has specific questions that would help the team determine where best to use the volunteer. Klatt said he could print off some hard copies of the sheet as well for the team to use.

Evanston Alliance Church Pastor Marc Trujillo said they have scheduled a Red Cross blood drive for May 1, to be held at his church. Klatt said a representative from the blood drive asked that people who want to donate schedule a time slot to promote social distancing. They can register at https://www.redcrossblood.org/.

Uinta County Emergency Management Director Kim West said the Food Bank of the Rockies, based in Colorado, will be in Evanston this Friday, April 3, to deliver 400 boxes of food. The truck will be parked at the Machine Shop parking lot from 1-3 p.m. Volunteers will load one box of staple food items plus one bag of fresh produce to each car that drives up. Drivers will be asked for their name and will not have to get out of the car or have any physical contact with the person loading their supplies. West said the food bank insists that only one box per car is given.

Deandrea Chichester of the local diaper bank said BOCES will host a diaper drive event on Monday, April 6, from noon to 3 p.m. in its parking lot. The local diaper drive project receives diapers from United Way every month. People can drive up, stay in their car and a volunteer will help to get them what they need. Donations of diapers and baby sanitary wipes can also be dropped off at the same time.

Uinta Senior Center Program Director Barb Bauer said she was happy to announce the center now has 11 drivers for Meals on Wheels but will still take volunteer names for future use if they lose volunteers. Natalie Lively is in charge of keeping a calendar of volunteers. They are currently serving 312 breakfast and lunch meals daily.

Tib Ottley of Uinta Realty has compiled a data base of seniors in Uinta County. He and Lively are perusing it to see who is already getting services and who might have “slipped through the cracks.” Ottley also wanted to let people know they are still collecting non-perishable items at Uinta Realty from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Uinta Senior Center Board member Sue Norman said a generous donation had come into the Coronavirus Response Fund at First Bank, and the balance was now at $2,500. She said they would need to have a meeting to decide how best to use the donations. Steve Stonebraker said the Lord’s Storehouse is still in need of canned goods and dried goods.

Stephanie Ludwig and Marilee Francom with Uinta County Public Health agreed to be the contact for calls from residents who have questions or who aren’t currently receiving any assistance. The number where they can be reached is 789-9203 or through their email: mefrancom@uintacounty.com or stludwig@uintacounty.com.
