Local doctor chosen for national committee

Local board-certified pediatrician Bird Gilmartin, MD FAAP, was selected to join the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Child Abuse and Neglect Executive Committee.

The national Council on Child Abuse and Neglect is dedicated to improving the care and outcomes of infants, children and adolescents through the prevention, identification, management and treatment of child abuse and neglect. Dr. Gilmartin serves as the general pediatrician representative on the Executive Council.

“Encountering child abuse and neglect is so heartbreaking, but pediatricians play an important role in identifying and preventing the mistreatment of children,” says Dr. Gilmartin. “By serving on this national council, I hope to support other pediatricians and healthcare providers in identifying and managing the medical care of abused children. I also aspire to build policies that provide appropriate care and support to children and families. This is in addition to building existing partnerships here in Uinta County with agencies, police, schools, and others who are all dedicated to protecting our children.”

“The addition of Dr. Gilmartin and Dr. Brown, two dedicated, board-certified pediatricians to our community is so important to building a healthy and safe community,” says Jeremy Davis, CEO of Evanston Regional Hospital. “Dr. Gilmartin”s leadership around identifying and preventing child abuse both locally and nationally is an immense resource for our community.”

Dr. Gilmartin is a board-certified pediatrician who trained specifically to treat children and their unique physical, emotional and psychological needs. She attended medical school at Pennsylvania State University and residency at Children”s Hospital Colorado in Denver. She practices at Uinta Medical Group in Evanston and also visits the Mountain View clinic with Bridger Valley Medical Group. She provides quality, evidence-based care for children from newborns to teenagers, and is now accepting new patients.
